Martin P. Maier studied physics with an emphasis on semiconductor and solar cell technologies. After stations at the University Santiago de Chile and University of Toronto he received his diploma from the University of Constance in 2009. In the same year he founded neonsee GmbH with support from the International Solar Cell Research Center (ISC) Konstanz where he has been working as a research assistant since 2006. Beginning 2017 Maier holds an additional position at SpaceTech GmbH where he is responsible for the manufacturing, assembly, integration and test of spacecraft photovoltaic assemblies.
